2021 “Crossroads, Building the Resilient City”, installation Ibos&Vitart at the Seoul Biennal of Architecture and Urban planning, SBAU 21

In 1982, Godfrey Reggio’s film Koyannisqatsi – Life out of balance – subtitled “The Prophecy”, invited us to reflect on the fragile balance of our world; a world subject to the tensions that human beings create in nature with their artifacts, as witnessed by our contemporary globalized cities. Beyond the film’s preoccupations with hallucinatory visions of our modernity, we are challenged by the underlying message of possible redemption. Against the violence of the images echoed by the rhythmic, accelerated editing, the great landscapes, slowly unfolding their majesty, bring a promise of serenity. At the crossroads, the astonishing beauty of the images compels our intelligence. Forty years on, we propose to put this work back into perspective.

120×80 cardboard pallets form a modular and repetitive structure that materializes the perspective background. An empty space at its center, of square proportion (1m20x1m20), accommodates a mise en abyme device made up of a mirror game. The film Koyaanisqatsi film by Godfrey Reggio is transmitted in a suggestive way on the four sides of the device by means of LED diodes on a on a 5mm weft. Each shot is multiplied to infinity.

The device is simple in design, assembly and disassembly. Most of the materials used are reusable. The project is part of an approach to saving resources and optimizing adaptation to the financial conditions and logistical requirements of the exhibition.
